In the UK, the majority of surgeons will specify that you must be aged 18 or over in order to have breast enlargement surgery. There may be an exception to this rule in exceptional circumstances, but this would need to be discussed with your surgeon.
This is due to a number of factors:
You are likely to be fully grown
Your breasts should be fully developed
Implants are not likely to interfere with the development of your breasts
You should, however, bear in mind that your breasts may continue to develop into your early twenties, so you should only consider an augmentation when you have definitely finished growing.
It will be difficult to determine the best size, shape and profile of implant to suit you if you are still developing, plus implants placed in breasts that are still developing can cause sagging and stretched, excess skin.
While it is often recommended that you wait until after you have had children, the optimum age for a successful breast augmentation is anywhere between 18 and 50 years old.
Younger women may choose the procedure as they feel their breasts are too small or lack volume. After having children, women may notice their breasts have changed size or shape and may wish to replicate their pre-pregnancy look. More mature women may feel their breasts are not looking as they used to and they may wish to boost their confidence with an augmentation.
Opting for an augmentation when you are aged between 20 and 35 id ideal as your breasts will be fully developed. However, there are some important considerations to be aware of before you commit to the procedure:
Do you plan to have children?
If you already have a child or children, do you plan to have more?
Do you intend to breastfeed?
Surgeons advise you to wait until after you have completed your family before having a breast augmentation, as your breasts can change size and shape considerably throughout pregnancy. If you breastfeed, these changes can be even more pronounced.
Women with implants who wish to breastfeed their babies may experience adverse effects such as difficulty breastfeeding and a reduction in firmness in their breasts.
This age group is typically regarded as the optimum for a breast augmentation, as:
They have finished developing
They have often completed their families
They are likely to be in good health
As a result, if you choose to have a augmentation at this stage of your life, you are not likely to have to consider breast feeding. You are also more likely to have a better understanding of and appreciation for any potential risks and complications associated with the surgery.
While you can choose to have a breast augmentation if you are aged over 50, you should bear in mind that the healing process is likely to be slower. You should ensure your health is at its best before undergoing surgery and gain a full understanding of any potential risks or complications involved with the procedure.
Thank you for working your magic and making me look years younger! Also a big thank you to your team for all their help and support. I love my new face!

I have my Botox with Karolina. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and advises me on what would look good and not so good on my face. She is a person I can trust!

"I am only three days into the recovery of my gynecomastia procedure, and already it has changed my life. I travelled from Cardiff to London to have this procedure and it was by far cheaper than having it done in my local area. Furthermore, Karidis' reputation exceeds expectations. I look forward to my follow up consultation so Karidis can see how he has changed my life. Communication from Karidis and his team - 5 star Professionalism - 5 star Results - 5 star."
For my first Velashape III treatment, Maxine made me feel really comfortable and explained exactly how the treatment would go and any after-effects I might have (I have had none). The process was smooth and painless and actually kind of relaxing. Most importantly, I can already see a MAJOR difference on the cellulite on my legs and butt. I am seriously impressed!
"My entire experience for an abdominoplasty and breast augmentation operation was faultless from a professional and caring team. I cannot recommend Mr Karidis enough from the consultation, in establishing what I wanted, to his skilled work. I am absolutely delighted with the results."
"A seven week recovery journey with a couple of little detours, but navigated with care by Mr Karidis, Suzi & Martina. Explanations, reassurance & advice given from first consultation, day of operation, day one post op. and at all subsequent clinic visits, along with a good dose of friendly chit chat & laughter, (Always a good medicine!). Thank you Mr Karidis & team. No regrets here."
