101 on Hyperhidrosis

17th May 2016

The condition formerly known as Hyperhidrosis – or what’s more commonly known as excessive sweating – can cause a great deal of stress and embarrassment to an individual’s life. The condition usually starts in childhood or adolescence and can continue well into adulthood. Whilst most sufferers live in constant anxiety and fear of embarrassment, there is no need for the condition to hold you back in life.

Whilst you might think that you are the only person suffering from the condition, it is actually a common disorder with 3% of the British population (that’s over 220 million people) suffering from hyperhidrosis.

Whilst sweating is totally natural, you might have hyperhidrosis if your excessive sweating is…

  • Socially debilitating you
  • You live in constant anxiety
  • You avoid social situations in fear of embarrassment
  • You avoid physical activity in fear that it will make your sweating worse
  • You social isolate yourself and are withdrawn

Where does it affect the body?

  • Armpits are the most common culprit
  • Soles of the feet
  • Palms
  • Face

How you can improve the condition…

  • Purchase a high strength antiperspirant
  • Change your diet by reducing or cutting out completely stimulants such as alcohol, caffeine and tobacco
  • Wear loose fitting clothes made out of natural fibres
