5 golden rules for smoothie recipes for post surgical recovery

If you’re embarking on facial surgery or recovering from one, nutritionist Kim Pearson advises feeding the skin plenty of fresh nutrients will strengthen it for the big day and aid its recovery. She’s given us five golden rules to remember when smoothie making.

1. Always include a source of fat such as half an avocado, nuts or seeds.

2. Include a scoop of natural, plant based protein powder.

3. Always add at least one green vegetable – leafy greens such as kale or spinach work well. Cucumber is also good.

4.Choose low sugar fruits (maximum of two portions). I personally like to use frozen mixed berries.

5.Choose a nut milk – unsweetened almond, hemp, cashew or oat milks are all good.

One to try…

Kim’s favourite skin boosting smoothie recipe contains three servings of fruit and veg. It’s low in sugar and contains a perfect balance of protein, healthy fats and slow releasing carbs. Not to mention being packed full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Ingredients:

One moderate handful of raspberries (fresh or frozen)
One moderate handful of blueberries (fresh or frozen)
A good chunk of cucumber
Two scoops of KetoSlim dairy free vanilla protein powder
Two tablespoons of flaxseeds
Almond milk – enough to reach desired consistency (I like Plenish but any unsweetened, non dairy milk will do)

Method:

Add all the ingredients into a NutriBullet, smoothie maker, jug blender or even with a hand blender. Whiz it up and enjoy.
