How Much Do Breast Implants Weigh?

While the question of how much breast enhancements weigh is sure to be one you’d like to discuss during your consultation, the question should only form part of your decision as to which implants to choose for a breast augmentation at our London clinic.

The larger the size of the breast implants, the more they will weigh.

There may be a slight weight variation from manufacturer to manufacturer and any slight difference between the weight of similar size silicone and saline implants is negligible.

If measuring in terms of weight, silicone breast implants weigh more than saline implants – although it is a common misconception than saline implants weigh more.

You can tell the difference by holding an implant made from each material and feeling the weight difference.

Breast implants are not measured according to bra size, but in liquid volume displacement (cc). An implant will weigh around the same as the equivalent amount of breast tissue.

Should I choose silicone or saline breast implants?

The implants used in your breast augmentation will be chosen based on a number of factors, such as your frame and your desired final result.

The best implants for you based on size, shape and volume of implants for will be discussed during your consultation with Mr Karidis to ensure you receive the results you are looking for.

What types of breast implant are available?

There are two main types of breast implant to choose from – silicone and saline.

Silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel and are often said to feel more like natural breast tissue.

Silicone implants need to be monitored by your surgeon via ultrasound more frequently than saline implants post-surgery. Should the gel leak, it may remain inside the implant shell or it may seep into the breast pocket. The implant will not collapse.

Filled with sterile salt water, saline implants provide a uniform shape and firm feel. Should the implant shell leak, the implant will collapse and the saline will be absorbed into your body, before being naturally excreted.

Structured saline breast implants are almost identical to classic saline implants, with the only difference being an inner structure which is designed to make the implant feel more natural.

How much do silicone breast implants weigh?

Every 100cc of silicone breast implant weighs 0.23lbs, so a typical 300cc silicone implant will weigh 0.69 pounds and a pair will weigh 1.38 pounds.

How much do saline breast implants weigh?

Every 100cc of saline implant weighs 0.21lbs. A typical 300cc saline implant will weigh 0.63lb, with a pair weighing around 1.26lbs.

How to choose the breast implants to suit you

When deciding on the right breast implants for you, Mr Karidis will also take into account the shape of the implants and the projection of the implants – how far they will extend from your chest.

Alongside the material of the implants, each of these factors will have a significant effect on the final result of your breast augmentation, impacting and the shape, size, shape and projection of your breasts after your surgery.

Teardrop breast implants are slightly firmer than round implants, in order maintain their shape. Teardrop implants keep their position instead of flattening sideways like a natural breast or round implant when you lie on your back.

While this is less natural in appearance, it gives your breasts an illusion of increased size.

Breasts which are naturally large b tend to have a lower profile due to the weight of the breast tissue. High profile breast implants can make your breasts appear fuller, but they may also look less natural, especially if the implants are also large.

Breast implants are placed beneath the existing breast tissue, either under or over the muscle. There is a physical limitation on the size of the implants as increased breast volume also increases width, meaning that overly large implants would extend beyond the breast tissue.

Implants which are too large for your frame can also cause problems including:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Poor posture
  • Breasts sagging due to the weight of the implant
  • Difficulty exercising
  • Difficulty sleeping on your front
  • Difficulty buying clothes that fit properly
