The rise of the non-surgical nose job

Rise of the non-surgical nose job

It comes as no surprise that nose jobs (rhinoplasty) are one of the most popular aesthetic surgeries in the world. As a non-invasive alternative, non-surgical rhinoplasty has also been gaining in popularity over the last few years for both men and women.

There are not many people who are happy with their nose. Whether they are unhappy with the size, length or shape, it isn’t something you can hide. Some people would simply prefer a different shaped nose, while for others it can be really debilitating, dictating how they wear their hair and what camera angles they avoid.

Self-consciousness about the shape or size of your nose can often start during the teenage years when you are still developing and this especially vulnerable time can lead to future insecurity. People often spend years contemplating rhinoplasty as an option. In cases like this, the person’s personality can change and this can affect all aspects of their lives – they can become withdrawn, depressed or painfully shy.

Surgery offers a permanent solution and the result can be life-changing, bringing relief, renewed confidence and happiness. Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Patrick Dempsey have been open about their surgical rhinoplasty and this encourages people to make the same decision.

The problem is that many people can’t afford a surgical procedure. This is where non-surgical rhinoplasty can be useful, as it is much more affordable. Alternatively, surgery might seem like too big a step and you may just want to see how your nose would look if it was shaped slightly differently before you commit to surgery.

What is non-surgical rhinoplasty?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty uses a syringe to inject filler into areas of your nose which would benefit from a fuller look. This works well if you have an angular, aquiline nose (Roman nose) with a prominent bridge that you would prefer to be straighter and more subtle in profile. The filler can be injected just above and below the bridge of the nose, thereby creating a straight line down the nose and the bump is blended. The filler can also be injected around the tip of the nose into the depressor nasalis – the muscle which pulls the nose down – this will also create a very flattering look.

Filler plumps up certain areas, so while you are refining the shape of your nose, you are making it slightly bigger. This is not the right treatment for you if you want to make your nose smaller. In this instance you would have to surgically reduce the size of your nose.

How long does a non-surgical nose job last?

At the Karidis clinic, we use temporary hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers for your safety. This means that the filler will gradually absorb and disappear. It will be around 6 – 9 months before you need to top up.

What are the benefits of a non-surgical rhinoplasty?

  • It’s very quick – you can have non-surgical rhinoplasty during your lunch break
  • It’s relatively painless due to our speedy, light-handed technique, using fillers which contain some local anesthetic
  • The procedure is much cheaper than surgical rhinoplasty
  • It is not permanent – an advantage if you are unsure and want to experiment with a different look
  • You won’t suffer the severe bruising and longer recovery time that you would have with surgery
  • Some patients prefer to spend a week or two out of sight after rhinoplasty; there is no need to do this after fillers
  • You won’t need a general aesthetic and therefore won’t suffer any side effects
  • You can even use nose filler after surgical rhinoplasty to smooth out any resulting imperfections instead of further surgery
  • Any slight redness, swelling or bruising after the injections will disappear in days

Are non-surgical nose jobs safe?

Like with any injectable filler, there are risks, even if it is a low-risk procedure. The same risks are there wherever you inject filler into the face, and this is why it is crucial that surgical nose jobs are performed by a rhinoplasty surgeon for your safety.

We choose to inject with HA filler as it is the safest. We also deliberately choose certain areas of the nose to inject – for example, along the bridge of the nose, away from the arteries, deep down below the level of any vessel.

Blogs and Instagram are awash with rave reviews and photos of some stunning results due to non-surgical rhinoplasty. However, whatever you decide, do ask your surgeon any questions you may have during the consultation as it is important to have the right expectations.
