In Beyoncé’s fourth Vogue cover spread she used the term ‘FUPA’ to describe the weight she had gained after giving birth to twins. After this interview, the question on everyone’s mind was what exactly is a ‘FUPA’ and how to get rid of it.

What is FUPA?

FUPA is an acronym which stands for ‘fat upper pubic area’. However, in the medical sphere the term panniculus is used instead. It refers to a layer of fat located over the upper pubic area. There are several reasons which explain the presence of panniculus ranging from childbirth to significant weight loss. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to lose fat in the upper pubic area in comparison to other parts of the body. Furthermore, it can be extremely hard to lose fat in specific areas from diet and exercise alone.

Ways to get rid of FUPA

It safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to target the fat cells underneath the skin gently and effectively, while leaving the skin itself unaffected.

The treated fat cells are crystallised, then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you. No surgery, no anaesthesia, no downtime.

CoolSculpting is particularly suited to eliminating smaller pockets of fat that can be ‘gripped’ by the device so it’s highly effective for areas of concern such as bra fat, muffin tops and also FUPAs.

Essentially, liposuction or fat removal surgery is the targeted removal of fatty deposits with the use of cannula and a vacuum. It can be performed on men and women and virtually anywhere on the body, including more delicate areas such as under the chin or the pubic area.

Mr Alex Karidis has been one of the pioneers in the UK in the use of the Power-Assisted Lipoplasty technique (PAL) and has been using it with great success for over 15 years.

Abdominoplasty, often referred to as a ‘tummy tuck’, is an operation to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall and to remove excess skin folds and fatty tissues from the middle and lower abdominal region. A tummy tuck can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen and lead to a flatter, firmer stomach.
