The masseter muscles are the chewing muscles which cover the sides and the angle of the jaw. These muscles join the cheekbone and the lower jaw.
Secondary to the tongue, the masseter muscles are the strongest muscles in the human body and can form a square shaped, very masculine-looking lower face.
While a square-shaped jaw may be desirable in men, it is not a favoured feminine appearance and can leave you feeling self-conscious.
A non-surgical jaw reduction is the ideal procedure to reshape and define your jaw area. Our nurse practitioner Karolina Padolskyte discusses the benefits of a non-surgical jaw reduction, what the procedure involves and how it can leave you feeling more confident.
What is a non-surgical jaw reduction?
The masseter muscles can be reduced in size using injections in a procedure known as a non-surgical jaw reduction.
The procedure is very quick and relatively comfortable. Usually 5 injection points per muscle are required, with very small cosmetic needles are used to inject the treatment into the muscles.
This treatment can also be used to treat problems with teeth-grinding (‘bruxism’).
Am I suitable for a non-surgical jaw reduction?
Before undergoing a non-surgical jaw reduction, it is important to establish whether the fullness of your face is caused by muscle or primarily fat.
During your consultation our specialist nurse prescriber will estimate the strength and size of your jaw muscles before recommending treatment.
How long does it take to see results from a non-surgical jaw reduction?
After a non-surgical jaw reduction you can leave the clinic immediately, with no downtime necessary.
There might be some slight redness at the injection sites but this is usually not noticeable to others and will fade quickly after the procedure.
The results of a non-surgical jaw reduction can usually be seen around a month after the procedure. This is the average time it takes for a muscle mass to shrink, thereby reshaping the face to achieve the desired oval, V-shape proportions.
The results of a non-surgical jaw reduction last on average 6-9 months. An additional benefit of the procedure is that the cheeks become highlighted, adding definition and contour to the face.
