Pia’s discusses her blepharoplasty experience with Mr Alex Karidis

Pia's blepharoplasty experience

Pia underwent an upper and lower blepharoplasty procedure after many years of being unhappy with the appearance of her eyes. As Karidis Clinic’s patient liaison, she was well aware of the fantastic results Mr Alex Karidis could achieve for his patients, so he was her only choice for surgeon…

Alex: I’m going to be brutally honest. Obviously, you had access to me in the clinic, and you would often come and have a little chat with me now and again and ask, what do you think about my eyes? Should I have them done?

Pia: That sounds like me!

Alex: So, what were your concerns?

Pia: I’ve wanted to do it for as long as I can remember. The appearance of my eyes has been an ongoing problem for me since I was young. I know my grandma had it, my mum had it, and my sister had it.

I thought about surgery for a very long time, but I just never got around to doing it. You prioritise so many things in your life before yourself. And it wasn’t until my daughter told me, “If you’re going to be happy doing it, just go ahead.”

So, I came to see you and booked my consultation, and within two months of that consultation, I had it done.

Alex: I think it’s interesting that you said members of your family have had problems with their eyelids. What would you describe this as?

Pia: I think both my grandma and my mum, my sister, and I were very prone to dry, dehydrated skin, which creates a lot of wrinkles around the eye area. I also had a lot of loose skin around that area. My sister had the surgery back home in Sweden, where we are from, and I saw the amazing results she had, so I wanted to go ahead with it as well.

Pia explains the impact an eyelid lift has had on her confidence

Pia: It’s made me happier. I’m very sociable, but in the year leading up to the surgery, I became quite introverted. I didn’t want to go out and socialise anymore. I never wanted to be in pictures. And that in itself affected my relationship with my daughter. So, having the surgery and now feeling good, I’m out again, I’m seeing my friends, and I’m socialising more, and my relationship with my daughter is ten times better.

Alex: It’s probably also made you better at your job in many ways. Because you were able to empathise with patients.

Pia: Absolutely. Patients can be apprehensive when enquiring about cosmetic surgery. There is always an element of guilt involved. And they worry whether the other person on the line will empathise with them.

I do this job five days a week, and like any other job, it becomes a routine. But you always have to remember that for the person on the other side of the phone, it’s new to them; they haven’t gone through it before.

So, when you speak to someone with the same concerns, you can understand and relate.
