Third of men and women in London and the South East want a bespoke approach to facial rejuvenation

Bespoke facial rejuvenation at Karidis Clinic

At Karidis Clinic, we always want to stay abreast of what prospective patients are thinking, so we recently commissioned a survey of views on plastic surgery and aesthetic enhancement. The survey covered everything from the impact of social media to the homogenisation of beauty.

Overwhelming rejection of ‘Instagram face’

The UK-wide study threw up lots of interesting takes, but we weren’t surprised that a third of adults in the South East and London desired an individualised approach to facial enhancement and were concerned that if we weren’t careful, everyone would look the same in the form of the Instagram face.

This reflects the attitude of the men and women we see in our clinic for surgical or non-surgical facial treatments. And this bespoke approach is the hallmark of our practitioners.

Plastic surgeon Mr Alex Karidis has over 32 years of experience and has performed over 2,000 facial and facelift operations.

“I can tap into this rather substantial experience to better assess your situation—and I stress that it is very much an individual situation for everyone—with people having different anatomical and physiological factors affecting their ageing.

“I’ll also give you my suggestions according to my aesthetic sense, which has always been driven by leaving the patient as natural as possible. That’s paramount in my mind. Always has and always will be. If you’re looking for extreme outcomes, then please look elsewhere.”

What components make up the Instagram face

Certain beauty ideals have merged into what’s now termed the Instagram face:

  • Forehead: no dynamic wrinkles to mar a perfectly smooth brow
  • Eye area: wide eyes and elevated brows
  • Cheeks: very prominent, rounded high cheeks
  • Nose: a straight, ever-so-slightly upturned nose
  • Mouth: full lips which are perfectly proportionate, with balanced upper and lower lips and a defined Cupid’s bow
  • Jawline: a snatched jawline is a must
  • Chin: a defined chin is the final touch for the Instagram face although the current craze is for a more pointed shape

Anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers are now widely used to effect these changes. Even though they are deemed non-surgical, these treatments can significantly reshape – or even distort – the face.

However, what goes up must come down, and there now seems to be a growing trend of women getting this look reduced or reversed completely and a Google video search for ‘YouTube lip filler removal’ delivers over 300,000 video results. Certainly, 44% of our survey’s respondents thought it was sad that society does not embrace individuality.

Dr Emily Strong, Aesthetic Doctor at Karidis Clinic, believes in the bespoke approach: “My goal is to unlock your inner beauty through an artistic, but thoughtful approach. Proportion, balance, and symmetry must always be considered with the aim of producing a natural and individual result.”
