Everyone ages differently and, depending on the area you want rejuvenated, there are different facelift techniques that can be considered.
The face can be broadly split into thirds; the upper face is your eyes and above to your forehead. The term mid-face covers the area from the corner of the eyes to the corner of the mouth. The lower face is from the corner of the mouth downwards, so includes the nasolabial folds, jawline and can even take in the neck and under chin.
During your facelift consultation, Mr Alex Karidis will listen carefully to your concerns and assess the degree of facial ageing you are experiencing. He can then advise you on which approach will produce a subtle and natural facial rejuvenation.
The difference between a full facelift and lower face lift
A conventional facelift, often known as a full face, typically addresses the mid-face and lower face and can be performed in conjunction with a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift if required.
During this procedure, Mr Karidis will typically make an incision around the temple, around the ears and towards the lower scalp. He will then lift the skin and address the deeper superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) layer, repositioning these tissues to lift and tighten the entire middle and lower face. Fat can be repositioned for a more youthful appearance.
A lower face lift is often called a ‘mini-facelift’ as it is less invasive than a full facelift. It is suitable for patients that are primarily concerned with sagging at the corners of the mouth and loss of definition along the jawline. There may also be an accumulation of fat under the chin and loose skin on the neck. Mr Alex Karidis aims to lift the lower face and restore a more defined and youthful jawline.
As the incisions will be shorter and it is mainly skin and fat tissue that is being addressed during a lower facelift, the recovery period is less prolonged than the downtime after a full facelift.
If you’re starting to see the early signs of facial ageing around the mouth and jaw, you may be a good candidate for a lower face lift. Call us on 0207 432 8727 to arrange a consultation with Mr Alex Karidis.
