Virtual Non-Surgical Consultations

Calf reduction treatment is a cosmetic procedure that reduces or improves the shape and size of the calf muscle to provide a more balanced appearance.

For women with very prominent, muscular calves, a calf reduction using muscle-relaxing injections is often the only solution. This non-surgical procedure at our London clinic uses the toxin to atrophy or shrink the calf muscle to produce a more pleasing appearance to the lower leg.

Slimmer, more feminine appearing calves can be achieved safely with minimal downtime. Results typically last three to four months before a repeat treatment is required although, over time, results can become more long-lasting.

This product has been very well tested in both aesthetic treatments and to treat a wide range of medical conditions and is considered safe and suitable for most people.

FAQs for Calf Reduction

If you’re unhappy with the appearance of overly-large or bulging calves, then muscle-relaxing injections can be used to reduce the size of the calf muscles. Muscle-relaxing injections have been used for many years to treat a number of medical conditions, including eyelid spasms, strabismus or crossed eyes, excessive sweating and chronic migraines, but has become well-known as an aesthetic treatment to smooth dynamic wrinkles such as crows’ feet and frown lines.

This product has been very well tested and is suitable for most people although it is not recommended for patients that have a skin infection or other skin condition in the treatment area or any disease that affects the nerves or muscles. Our consultant plastic surgeon Mr Mark Ho-Asjoe can advise you if you are suitable for a calf reduction.

Muscle-relaxing injections work by blocking the nerves that activate our muscles, thereby causing them to relax. In the calves, it is mainly the gastrocnemius muscle that causes a bulky appearance to the calves, so Mr Ho-Asjoe will target that particular muscle. As they start to become inactive, the calf will shrink and become smoother.

A calf reduction will not affect the regular function of the calves and there are minimal side effects and potential risks which will be discussed in full during your consultation. Muscle-relaxing injections have been used for many years and have been rigorously tested for safety. There may be a little discomfort in the treatment area, but there is no scarring and no downtime after a calf reduction.

Calf reduction results vary depending on the size of your calf muscle. After your treatment, the calf will become progressively smoother and slimmer over the following weeks. Results typically last three to four months but repeat treatments can last longer.
