Refining the tip of your nose: a targeted approach

What is tip rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is an operation to change the size and shape of your nose. But when some people say that they dislike the appearance of their nose, they’re often actually focused on the appearance of the tip of their nose. Tip rhinoplasty (also known as tip plasty or tipoplasty) is surgery to improve the shape of the tip (the rest of your nose is left alone). Tip rhinoplasty has cosmetic, medical and psychological benefits. If you are unsure whether you would benefit from tip rhinoplasty or full rhinoplasty, call us for a consultation.

Why might nose tip surgery be required?

You may benefit from tip rhinoplasty if you have any of the following which you’re unhappy with:

  • A hooked nasal tip
  • A flat nasal tip
  • A bulbous nasal tip
  • A nasal tip that you see as too short
  • A nasal tip that you feel is too long
  • A collapsed nasal tip (after traditional rhinoplasty)
  • A narrow nasal tip

Tip rhinoplasty can also be performed alongside septoplasty to treat a deviated or crooked nasal septum for medical reasons, such as to improve your breathing.

FAQs for tip rhinoplasty

The appearance of the nasal tip is improved by either reducing the size of the nostrils or by targeting the nasal cartilage. There are different types of tip rhinoplasty procedures. The one that’s the right solution for you will depend on your individual needs.

Tip rhinoplasty can involve either an open technique or a closed technique. The open technique uses an incision between the two nostrils and a minimal scar, while the closed technique uses an incision on the inside of the nostrils (so no visible scarring). The closed technique is also much quicker.

Traditional rhinoplasty aims to reshape your entire nose and addresses various problems, such as straightening a nasal hump or crooked nose or improving the overall size and shape of your nose. Tip rhinoplasty is focused on the look and function of the tip of the nose (for example, a hooked tip or a bulbous tip).

Tip rhinoplasty takes around an hour depending on your individual case.

The healing process after nose tip surgery can take between 6 to 12 months, with the fastest recovery during the first three months. There’ll be some initial bruising and swelling, but you should be able to resume regular activities six weeks after your surgery.

Rest assured, you’ll be in no pain during the procedure. After the surgery you’ll experience some discomfort as you’ll feel ‘bunged up’ and you’ll experience some bruising and swelling.

Like any surgery, tip rhinoplasty carries certain risks, but that’s why it’s vital to choose a surgeon who is a specialist in tip rhinoplasty, one who has extensive experience and is knowledgeable, as well as highly skilful. Your surgeon at Karidis Clinic will also ensure to take all the necessary precautions.
