Rhinoplasty before and after

“I feel so much more confident. And even though my new nose hasn’t changed my face entirely in how I look in comparison to how I looked before, it has changed so much within me.”

Our lovely patient Karolina, 30, recently underwent the nose reshaping surgery to correct what she felt was an overly long nose that didn’t suit her face.

Her delight with her results made her the perfect person to showcase the Karidis Clinic experience in Tatler’s Beauty & Cosmetic Surgery Guide.

Who is suitable for rhinoplasty?

Every patient is carefully assessed by Mr Alex Karidis, both physically and psychologically, during their consultation. Then he can advise you whether you’re suitable for this procedure. Mr Karidis will look for the following:

  • You are bothered by the size or shape of your nose
  • You have suffered a trauma to the nose that needs correcting
  • You do not smoke and if you are near your ideal body weight
  • Your nose is causing discomfort/breathing difficulties or loud snoring
  • Your nose is disproportionate to the rest of your face
  • You are in generally good physical fitness and have realistic expectations about the results

What does rhinoplasty surgery involve?

Nose Reshaping Surgery LondonThe rhinoplasty is a challenging and often life-changing procedure so it is essential to choose an experienced and technically skilled surgeon who will listen carefully to your concerns and expectations. He will always aim to deliver a natural and harmonious result that enhances facial balance.

Depending on the techniques used, a rhinoplasty can correct a hump or irregularity on the bridge of the nose, make the nose smaller, slimmer or more prominent, shorten or reshape the tip, narrow the nostrils, and change the angle of the nose. It can also improve function by correcting breathing issues and alleviating snoring and sleep apnoea.

Nose Reshaping Surgery FAQs

Mr Alex Karidis is one of London’s leading rhinoplasty surgeons and has performed thousands of procedures. Based on his experience, these are the most commonly asked questions during a consultation.

This is a common concern, yet there is virtually no pain after rhinoplasty surgery. There may be some discomfort due to the swelling of the nasal passages and patients often say the least pleasant part is removing the padding the day after surgery.

This is a more difficult question to answer, as every patient heals differently. In the first couple of weeks after surgery there can be a great deal of swelling and over the next few months it will continue to reduce. However, there may still be some small residual swelling that persists for up to a year so it’s important to wait till this point to evaluate your final outcome.

During an open rhinoplasty Mr Alex Karidis will make a small incision between the nostrils to reveal the nasal structure, whereas in a closed rhinoplasty all the incisions are made within the nose. Although the latter means no visible scarring, an open rhinoplasty is often required particularly if the nasal tip needs sculpting. Any scarring also usually heals very well. Mr Alex Karidis will be able to advise which approach best suits your needs.

You will not be able to drive yourself home after surgery as you still be under the influence of the anaesthetic. Most patients feel capable of driving three to five days after surgery.

Exercise increases your heart rate and blood pressure and, as well as the risk of nose bleeds, it increases swelling of the nasal tissues that can negatively impact your results. We advise patients to introduce light exercise between four to six weeks after surgery.

You will however need to avoid any contact sports for three months, while the nasal bones heal completely.
