Breeze through the party season with miraDry

miraDry for excessive sweating

November is Hyperhidrosis Awareness month and, as the party season begins to gear up, it is a timely reminder of the impact that excessive sweating can have on sufferers, particularly their confidence in social situations. A staggering one in ten people says they are bothered about how much they sweat on an everyday basis and that it affects where they can go, what they can do and what they can wear.

Sweating is one of the body’s normal responses, but recent research has found that nearly 5% of the world’s population experiences sweating that is excessive and problematic. Here in the UK, that means there are at least two million of us that are affected by the condition. It’s no wonder that the global market for hyperhidrosis treatments is set to reach 1.87 billion dollars by 2026, as more and more men and women search for a treatment that can deliver effective, long-term results.

What are my treatment options for excessive sweating?

If you’ve sought treatment for excessive sweating, you’ll be aware that the treatment options are limited, and their effectiveness varies. Usually, the first step will be a prescription antiperspirant, but these can cause skin and eye irritation and it’s not targeting the underlying cause of the problem.

Certain medications can be prescribed that can decrease sweating, but they often have significant side effects that must be taken into account. Botulinum toxin injections can also be recommended; the toxin is injected into the underarm and it temporarily blocks the nerves that cause sweating. Although there is little downtime after a botulinum toxin injection, results only last approximately six months and this isn’t always available on the NHS so can prove very costly. Surgical removal of the sweat glands is another option, but there are a number of risks associated with surgery.

miraDry for excessive sweating is a more recent treatment option and is becoming increasingly popular as it has many advantages over other hyperhidrosis treatments, but none of the downsides.

The miraDry for excessive sweating device delivers thermal energy safely into the underarm area, destroying the sweat glands that are located next to the hair follicles. Patients can expect an 82% reduction in excessive sweating from just one session. Results are immediate with very little downtime and, as the sweat glands are permanently eliminated, you should expect long-lasting results. Odour is also reduced, and you even get a permanent hair reduction at the same time.
