Knee-shaping for great-looking legs

Are you tired of dressing to hide your knees? Do your knees rub together? Do you dread warmer seasons, swimming and playing sports for fear of showing your knees? The whole look, feel and movement of your legs can be affected by knees with stubborn pockets of fat. It’s common for fat to gather around your knees, particularly as you age. And sitting down for work or relaxing on the sofa can add to the accumulation of fat on your knees. Frustratingly, you can’t target a particular area of stubborn fat with diet and exercise. But you can with liposuction!

What is knee liposuction?

Knee liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat deposits from your inner knee. This is often done at the same time as thigh liposuction for a complete reshape. Depending on the look that you’re aiming for, you may need more than one session. This isn’t a big weight loss procedure; the amount of fat that can be removed around the knee is limited, so your surgeon will make sure that your expectations are realistic. And as long as you keep fit and healthy, the results are long-lasting.

What will happen during my knee liposuction procedure?

Your surgeon will begin by marking the areas of your knee area where you have fat deposits to be removed. Under general anaesthetic, micro incisions will then be made and a tiny probe will be inserted to break down and loosen the fat (using ultrasound energy). Then a small cannula will suction and remove the fat. Your surgeon will then close up the incisions. After your surgery, compression bandages will cover your knee area which will control bleeding and swelling to aid your recovery.

Our surgeons are renowned for their skill and experience with the knee liposuction procedure and they will reassure you. Any surgical procedure can be daunting so we ensure you are supported by our whole team from the moment that we meet you to your aftercare.

FAQs for knee liposuction

Knee liposuction is suitable for male or female patients that want to change the look of their knees, improving the whole appearance of their legs. If this interests you, then you’ll have to be in good general health with realistic expectations about what knee liposuction can achieve for you. You’ll also need healthy skin with good elasticity which will shrink back once you’ve had the fat removed.

Frustrating isn’t it! But unsightly, uncomfortable knee fat is caused by various things including ageing, weight gain, hormones (especially during pregnancy and menopause), too little exercise — or even excessive workouts!

You’ll be able to see the results straight away; however, it can take up to 12 weeks to achieve final results as swelling and bruising down. And because each patient has different areas and amounts of fat, results will vary from one person to the next. Your surgeon will explain the expectations with your case during your consultation.

You should be up and about within a day or so, although you may feel slightly ‘washed out’ from the whole experience. You will steadily improve day by day after this. Despite wound drainage, you are still likely to experience swelling and bruising to varying degrees. Sometimes this bruising is quite spectacular.

Bruising can take up to 3 weeks to disappear although very occasionally a light tinge of yellow can still be seen in the skin up to 2 months following treatment. Tissue swelling, while expected, can last up to 4 weeks. In fact, because of this swelling, you will probably not notice any change in your size immediately after surgery.

Yes, you can combine treatments at Karidis Clinic because you’ll have access to a whole team of specialists. It’ll save you recovery time and will also simplify juggling time off work and childcare. Knee liposuction is often combined with other areas of the body for liposuction or to contour more of the leg, such as combining knee liposuction with an inner thigh lift.

Your knee liposuction surgery will require a surgeon fee, an anaesthetist fee and a hospital fee. The price also includes all of your pre-operative and post-operative care. Everyone has unique requirements, so the cost might vary a little, but we’ll give you a detailed quotation following your consultation.
